Dr. Thomas did his schooling in Port St Johns, South Africa, followed by MBBS from the Walter Sisulu University, Mthatha. Later, he went on to do MS in Ophthalmology at Christian Medical College Ludhiana and continued there as Asst. Prof in the department and was a part of the community outreach programmes. The department has the distinction of being a pioneer in the community Ophthalmology outreach programme covering the northern states of Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir. He has updated his surgical skills by undergoing short term phacoemulsification training in cataract surgery at Aravind Madurai and Chandraprabha Eye hospital Assam. He has 10+ years' experience handling all sorts of ocular emergencies, and is also skilled in laser procedures (including pan-retinal photocoagulation, barrage laser, and focal laser)
