1. Diabetic Eye Disease
Diabetes has assumed the proportions of an epidemic in India. Across the world and particularly in India, diabetes is on the rise. Eyes are frequently affected by diabetes. Besides the eye, it also affects the kidney, heart, circulatory system, peripheral nerves, etc and brings about devastating problems.
Eyes can be affected in several ways like frequent lid boils (stye), frequent changes in vision (lens power), dry eyes and lid swelling. Or, it can be affected with major problems like cataract, diabetic retinopathy, diabetic nerve paralysis, double vision (diplopia) and blindness due to retinal detachment, bleeding, optic nerve swelling (papilopathy), etc.
Cataract: One of the most common problems due to diabetes is a fast growing cataract in which the only solution is surgery. The problem with ordinary cataract surgery is the high risk for infections in a diabetic person. MEH offers the safest Micro Cataract Surgery which has zero chance for any infection.
Diabetic Retinopathy: It has emerged as the leading cause of blindness in India now. MEH offers latest laser treatment options and diagnostic tests like High resolution Spectral OCT, angiograms (FFA) etc.

2. Glaucoma
Glaucoma is called the 'silent thief of sight'. It causes permanent blindness and has no symptoms. Some might experience a mild headache or loss of clarity and most of the affected don't even know the start of disease.
Thus, the need for yearly eye examinations complete with vision tests, eye pressure test (tonometry or IOP check), visual field tests etc cannot be over emphasized. Often, visual field test abnormalities are the only pointers to the disease. Though in most cases glaucoma is associated with high eye pressure, it is not the rule. A person can still have glaucoma with normal eye pressure (25%) making it imperative to go for a visual field test.
MEH is equipped with latest visual field testers like Octopus Perimeters that pick up even the slightest changes and predict the pattern of the disease. The colorful and graphical reports are simple for the patient to understand and monitor. Retinal nerve fiber thickness can be assessed by the latest Scanning Laser Ophthalmoscope at MEH. This is vital to judge the remaining strength of the nerve.
